At least 110 people flocked to the corner of 3rd and Elm in Prineville at noon on Saturday, April 5th, to protest President Donald Trump’s cuts to federal programs and other policies. The demonstration reflected our community’s deep commitment to safeguarding our democracy and civil rights.
The protest was part of a nationwide day of “Hands Off” demonstrations — peaceful protests organized by the 50501 movement — to get Trump and billionaire Elon Musk to stop firing federal workers; slashing funding for government grants; threatening cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and veterans’ benefits; and terrorizing immigrants.
The overwhelming attendance underscores the power of community action and the importance of standing together against policies that threaten our freedoms and public services. We sincerely thank everyone who participated and contributed to this historic event. Let’s continue to channel this energy and unity into ongoing efforts to protect and uphold our democratic values!
