Our April 11 forum at the Pine Theater in Prineville featured the six Democratic candidates for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District: Chris Beck, Mary Doyle, Rebecca Mueller, Peter Quince, Dawn Rasmussen, and Patty Snow.
The candidate who prevails in this race will go on to face the Republican primary winner in the fall midterm election.
They each responded to a range of questions on a variety of topics: paid vouchers for public schools; their plans to address environmental issues; whether stock trading should be allowed for members of Congress; their positions on universal healthcare; whether Congress members should continue receiving salaries during a government shutdown; whether laws should be passed to regulate data centers; and the policies they would champion to strengthen rural economies.
The event offered Crook County residents a valuable opportunity to meet the candidates, hear their priorities firsthand, and leave better prepared to vote in the election.
Our current representative, Cliff Benz, has a consistent voting record of supporting policies that undermine democratic institutions, stall economic growth, roll back public health and environmental protections, and endanger rural healthcare access and Social Security benefits for millions of Americans. He has also cut grants for child abuse and domestic violence programs.
We can no longer accept a representative who doesn’t truly stand for us. It’s time to elect a Democrat who genuinely reflects our values.
