The cost of conflict: How the Iran war is hitting Oregonians

The cost of war for Oregonians

Donald Trump’s escalating war in Iran is reckless, unlawful, and hurting Americans.

His current threat to attack Iran’s civilian infrastructure — power plants, bridges — reveals a narcissistic, immoral leader.

Targeting civilian infrastructure would constitute war crimes under international law.

Our service members and military leaders swear an oath to the Constitution. They are legally required to refuse unlawful orders, including any directive to commit war crimes.

This war of choice isn’t just playing out overseas — it’s also showing up in our daily lives.

Higher fuel costs. Higher grocery bills.

And now — escalating shipping costs. The U.S. Postal Service has announced its first-ever surcharge on packages — an 8% increase — driven by rising fuel prices tied to this conflict.

That means paying more at the pump. Paying more at the store. Paying more for everyday essentials.

Trump promised to lower costs and end wars.

Instead, he’s delivering the opposite: higher prices and a dangerous new conflict. This is what happens when reckless decisions are made without accountability.

Congress must reassert its role, restore responsible leadership, and put American families’ needs ahead of impulsive, dangerous actions.
