On May 1st, 50+ Crook County Democrats joined hundreds of organizations nationwide to oppose U.S. policies that prioritize billionaires over families and everyday workers.
Since Inauguration Day, corporate billionaires — who built their fortunes on the backs of low-wage workers — together with the Project 2025 agenda, have led attacks on workers’ rights and freedoms. They’ve targeted people based on their appearance and the language they speak, while undermining their First Amendment protections.
Historically, May Day has been a key day of protest for the labor movement. While labor and immigrant rights are traditionally intertwined, the focus of May Day rallies in the U.S. shifted to immigration in 2006. That’s when millions of people took to the streets to protest federal legislation that would’ve made living in the U.S. without legal permission a felony.
This year, labor unions, immigrant rights groups, and political organizations came together to demand higher taxes on the wealthy and an end to ICE and the wars President Trump has started. Rising living costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East were also a key theme.
Weekday protests can be difficult to attend, given the demands of work and school. Thanks to everyone who was able to participate!
