The turning point: Why this election matters more than ever
October 26, 2026

The choice in the 2026 election is stark
As voters, we’ve come to a critical turning point for our country’s future, and the direction we take next rests entirely in our hands. Those of us who show up to the ballot box will decide exactly what comes next — whether we continue down a path of division and institutional decay or begin the hard work of rebuilding.
Relentless attacks have targeted core American values for years
We’ve endured a barrage of reckless foreign policy moves, the erosion of affordable healthcare, and repeated assaults on civil rights and environmental protections. Aggressive immigration measures have fractured communities, while relentless attacks on the free press and our democratic institutions have left deep wounds across the nation.
But this damage is not irreversible. We can change course, but only if we turn our collective frustration into firm action by voting.
What’s at stake
To resuscitate the foundation of our democracy and protect our communities, our next leaders must focus on critical priorities that put people over political posturing:
- Restoring accountability: Trust in public office doesn’t just happen on its own. It starts with ending pay-to-play politics, enforcing ethical standards, and holding every leader accountable — no exceptions. If we want people to believe in government again, transparency isn’t merely a buzzword — it’s a requirement. Corruption eats away at the heart of our institutions, and fixing it means serious, hands-on oversight.
- Protecting healthcare: Getting sick shouldn’t mean financial disaster. Everyone deserves healthcare they can afford, no matter their job, income, or background. We must protect and strengthen the Affordable Care Act, restore the help families count on, and ensure pre-existing conditions never keep anyone from getting covered. Nobody should stay up at night worrying they’ll lose everything if they need medical care.
- Repairing global alliances: Our economy and national security depend on strong relationships abroad. That means ending tariffs that hurt American workers, stepping back from pointless foreign conflicts, and reestablishing trust with our allies. We’re better off working with our partners and allies, standing up to bullies, and keeping our promises — isolating ourselves only puts us at risk.
- Defending civil rights: Equal protection under the law isn’t just a slogan — it’s a promise we need to keep. Defending voting rights, keeping checks and balances strong, and making sure no one is left out or targeted shouldn’t be up for debate. Nobody in this country should ever have to worry about losing their rights because of who’s in charge.
Breaking the cycle of complacency
This is not the time to be complacent or assume someone else will save the day. Today’s political climate is a direct result of voters staying home. When we choose not to participate, we cede our power to special interests, corporate lobbyists, and those who profit from the status quo.
Our way of life, our communities, and the very foundation of our democracy are on the line — and that’s no exaggeration. Today’s policies will shape our economy, our courts, and our social fabric for generations. Judicial appointments made during this era will impact our legal rights for decades. Rolling back environmental regulations today will accelerate the climate crisis tomorrow.
Change doesn’t happen from the sidelines. It happens at the polls.
Democracy is not a spectator sport; it requires constant, active participation.
Don’t sit this out. Vote and make sure everyone you know does, too.
